Google wants to make your life a bit easier by highlighting sites that have been optimized for mobile devices in its search results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>April 21st, 2015 Google has applied new indexing rules that are aimed to change the search algorithm for mobile devices. Olga Karavan from Code Production\/EZ-BC has shared sa few thoughts on how these changes will affect existing Business Catalyst sites and the advantages of a new algorithm you can benefit from when creating new sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s Inside New Algorithm<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 21, 2015, Google has released a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm which means that Google use Mobile Friendliness as a ranking signal. The update doesn\u2019t apply to tablets or desktop, just smartphones, but everyone should make their site mobile friendly, because about 60% of search traffic now comes from mobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A page is eligible for the \u201cMobile-friendly\u201d label if it meets the following criteria as detected by Googlebot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"410\" src=\"http:\/\/project.uitsbd.com\/wordpress\/uitsbd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/google-mobile-friendly-1024x410.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2789\" srcset=\"https:\/\/project.uitsbd.com\/wordpress\/uitsbd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/google-mobile-friendly-1024x410.png 1024w, https:\/\/project.uitsbd.com\/wordpress\/uitsbd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/google-mobile-friendly-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/project.uitsbd.com\/wordpress\/uitsbd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/google-mobile-friendly-768x307.png 768w, https:\/\/project.uitsbd.com\/wordpress\/uitsbd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/google-mobile-friendly-720x288.png 720w, https:\/\/project.uitsbd.com\/wordpress\/uitsbd\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/google-mobile-friendly.png 1504w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For Google, such a page does the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash<\/li><li>Uses text that is readable without zooming<\/li><li>Sizes content to the screen so users don\u2019t have to scroll horizontally or zoom<\/li><li>Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you want to make sure that your page meets the mobile-friendly criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Check your pages with the Mobile-Friendly Test&nbsp;<\/li><li>Read our updated documentation on our Webmasters Mobile Guide on how to create and improve your mobile site<\/li><li>See the Mobile usability report in Google Webmaster Tools, which highlights major mobile usability issues across your entire site, not just one page<\/li><li>Check our how-to guide for third-party software like WordPress or Joomla, in order to migrate your website hosted on a CMS (Content Management System) to use a mobile-friendly template.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It can be pretty annoying sometimes when you\u2019re browsing the websites&nbsp;on a mobile or smartphone devices, only to find out the site you\u2019re visiting has a terrible layout on your phone.
